What's Waldorf?
Rudolf Steiner was an Austrian scientist who is credited for the development of Waldorf Education in 1919 following WWI. He wanted to find ways to help children reconnect with the world around them after the perils of war. Waldorf inspired dolls are made from natural materials like cotton, wool and mohair to create softness and warmth that will have a calming affect on little ones. They have movable arms and legs that allow for natural postures and beautiful yet simple features to allow children's imagination free range while sparking creativity.
The Warranty
DFH offers a tremendous warranty: "We warranty our products for materials and workmanship, to the original purchaser, for the first two years. Even after that we will repair your toys for as long as you would like to have them repaired, provided that you ship them to us. We craft our dolls to withstand rough play but we understand that things happen. Cats happen, older brothers happen, food spills happen. We want these dolls to last for a child's lifetime. Should something happen to your beloved DFH doll please contact us."
The Process
Care and Cleaning
Materials: Cotton interlock knit Imported from the Netherlands (skin), wool stuffing (body), wool yarn (hair), cotton fabric (clothing)
Spot Cleaning: Using a luke-warm damp cloth and mild soap, gently rub the soiled area. Next take a clean damp cloth and blot out the area. Finally, take a dry clean cloth and blot all moisture from the area.
Washing: You can wash your doll as you would a wool sweater with a good soak in mild soap and then spot rubbing. This should only be done in cases where the doll is extremely soiled. Take care to reshape with your hands after the water is squeezed out. Wrap it in a towel for a bit and follow the directions for drying.
Drying: Depending on how wet it is, you may just want to leave it to air dry or use the cool setting on a hairdryer for spot drying. If you have a sneaker rack for your dryer, you can place it on that in the dryer for an hour on NO HEAT setting.
All About Hair
Mohair: Shorn from an adult Angora goat also in fiber form
Weft: Shorn from an adult Angora goat in sheared length that is sewn together in long strips. Because it is real hair, you treat it as you would real hair. You can comb it and style it the same as you would your own. When dyed, they are washed out with organic argan oil shampoo and conditioner... the same kind you can purchase at any Sally beauty or local store. When the doll's hair is styled in the shop, it is spritz with a spray bottle filled with water and conditioner then blown dry and styled like our own hair. Straight Weft can be brushed and combed. Curly Weft should be finger combed only.
Tibetan Lamb Skin: An unbelievably soft animal pelt
All Natural Materials
Wool is not only natural, but renewable. Every year sheep grow new fleece consuming less energy during the manufacturing process than other man-made products. Wool is also biodegradable!
Wool is warming to the touch but also breathable making it a fantastic material for all seasons. It is non allergenic and anti-microbial: Mildew, mold and bacteria will not grow on it and dust mites will not live in it.
Wool is safe for little ones as it is naturally flame-resistant and will resist burning. Fire fighters wear wool uniforms because if it does catch fire it will most likely smolder and extinguish itself - It will not melt or drip. Wool has the highest natural fire resistance of all commonly encountered textile fibers.
Wool can be a comfort for little ones as it takes in the smell of your home, making it perfect for trips away or nighttime snuggles.
